Essay Question #1 – The Recipe for Hope (750–1,000 words)

Jennah believed creativity could brighten even the darkest days. Imagine your life is a recipe. What ingredients have shaped the person you are becoming? Tell us about a challenge you have faced, how creativity helped you discover hope or healing, and how your chosen art will allow you to make the world a little kinder. If you could create one masterpiece—a dessert, painting, song, photograph, performance, film, or other work of art—to encourage someone struggling with their mental health, what would it be, and what message of hope would it share?

If Jennah were sitting across the table from you today, what would you want her to know about your dreams? How would receiving The Jennah Cook Hope Rises Memorial Scholarship help you turn those dreams into hope for someone else?

Hope grows through action. Tell us one meaningful way you will intentionally spread hope, kindness, or encouragement in your community over the next year. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture—sometimes the smallest acts make the biggest difference. Explain what you plan to do, why it matters to you, and how you hope it will positively impact someone else's life.
